The Certificate of Professional Development,
specializing in ASL or Interpreting, is a series of three courses for those
interested in broadening their skills and knowledge. All courses are offered
at a distance via the World Wide Web.
The set of three courses constitutes core knowledge regarding ASL and the
application of these skills to assessing ASL. While a student could take
three single courses, a certificate verifies that a student has learned
a coherent body of knowledge in a curriculum designed for professional development.
As the value of continuing education for the growth of professional skills
is recognized in all fields, certificate programs represent training that
is focused and specific. For a field with limited terminal degrees, a certificate
would demonstrate training that is well organized and coherent. See http://www.colorado.edu/slhs/ASLcert/.
