FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSHow many courses can I take at one time?Contact the institution offering the course as they may have restrictions on course enrollment and time frames. When can I enroll? You may enroll at any time. Will my grade appear on a transcript? Your final grade in a credit-bearing course will be recorded on an official transcript at the institution that offers the course. Check with the institution offering the course for transcript availability if you are attempting to meet a deadline. How do I make sure that the credit I earn will apply toward my goal? The institution offering the course will award the academic semester-hour credit upon your completion of the course. If you wish to apply credit toward degree requirements, certification, or licensure, contact your advisor or the agency issuing the certificate/license before you register. How long do I have to complete a course? One year, although some courses at Colorado State and CSU-Pueblo have a six-month time limit. Overseas students are allowed two years, except at MSCD, CSU, CSU-Pueblo (one year), and CU-Boulder. There is a fee for overseas postage. At UNC, persons with disabilities also have two years. Information on obtaining extensions is in the course syllabus/study guide or UNC's student guide. How fast can I complete a course? Minimum time for course completion differs by institution. If you intend to pursue a fast pace for self-study, check with the institution for its policy before you register. How do I take exams? Most exams must be proctored. You may arrange your exam with any member institution's independent study office. Your syllabus/study guide will provide a list of proctors and qualifications. Students taking course exams in Greeley are advised to contact the UNC Testing Center at 970-351-2790. May I audit? Yes. Contact the institution offering the course. What about noncredit courses? Some courses listed in this catalog have both a credit and noncredit option. A noncredit enrollment cannot be applied to academic degree programs. In most cases, noncredit courses award Continuing Education Units (CEUs), and in many cases, these courses may be used for professional certification. For information on applicability, contact your licensing or certification board and the institution offering the course before registering. Who can enroll? Anyone. There are no application forms or admission fees. MSCD has an application requirement. Enrollment in a course does not constitute admission to a member institution. Do I need to provide transcripts? Most institutions do not require transcripts to enroll. If you plan to register for a Metropolitan State College course, also complete the application on page 114. Are there prerequisites? If a course has prerequisites, they are listed in the course description. Occasionally, instructor permission may be substituted for a prerequisite requirement. While Consortium institutions do not require proof of prerequisites at the time of enrollment, it is your responsibility to satisfy any prerequisite requirements if you are a degree-seeking student. Do I have to be a Colorado resident? No. Students reside throughout the world. What is the cost? See each course description for cost. Tuition and fees are due at the time of registration. Tuition amounts listed are based on the 2003-2004 academic year rates. The institutions and the Colorado Commission on Higher Education reserve the right to change tuition rates without notice. Are there Senior Citizen discounts? No, not available. How do I pay? Member institutions accept personal checks, money orders, Visa, and MasterCard. The Discover card is accepted at Adams State College, Colorado State, CU-Boulder, MSCD, Colorado State University-Pueblo, and the University of Northern Colorado. Colorado State accepts American Express. Are textbooks included in tuition and fees? No. Textbooks are available at the bookstore of the institution offering the course. Are refunds offered if I withdraw? Each institution has its own policies about transfer fees, withdrawal, and refunds. The institution may charge a transfer fee and may give partial refunds. These policies are included in your course materials. Examine the course requirements and overview as soon as you receive your study guide. MSCD & ASC have a 30-day refund period; CSU-Pueblo has a 14-day refund period; Colorado State allows refunds for 20 business days after enrollment. Can I use my COF stipend for these classes? Eligible students may be able to use the Colorado Opportunity Fund (COF) for some courses listed. The eligible courses include the COF tuition rate in the course description.
