Special Services for the Disabled
Recording for the Blind (RFB) is able
to provide a free service to students who are unable to read normally printed
material because of visual, physical, or perceptual disabilities. Made possible
by contributions, RFB maintains a Master Tape Library containing over 48,000
titles. If required books are not among its holdings, and if the borrower
is registered with RFB and submits two identical copies of the work, RFB
will record the book. For additional information, write to Recording for
the Blind, 215 East 58th Street, New York, NY 10022, or call 866-732-3585.
A free national library program of Braille and recorded materials for blind
and physically disabled persons is administered by the National Library
Service (NLS), Library of Congress. Ask your local public librarian for
more information about the program and how to apply for the service.
If you are disabled and require special services, contact the institution
offering the course you have chosen to see what services, if any, are available
and how they can assist you.
